The name La Parole was not chosen by chance. Meaning “the speech” in French, it is a direct homage to the central notion proposed by Jacques Lacan for the analytic experience: speech.

Whether it wishes to be an agent of healing, training, or sounding the depths, psychoanalysis has but one medium: the patient’s speech.

Jacques Lacan, “The function and field of speech and language in psychoanalysis”

We believe that it's through speech, in a space of qualified and ethical listening, that the subject can weave their own story, elaborate on their discomfort and reposition themselves towards suffering. The La Parole Clinic is an environment dedicated to this practice, offering a safe and welcoming place to tell one's own story, to deal with discomfort, anxiety, depression, trauma and other forms of suffering that cross individuals' lives.

We are a collective formed by three Brazilian psychoanalysts who met in France, united by a common interest in Lacanian psychoanalysis and the importance of an permanent formation. Our clinic is born from the intersection between the singular and the collective, and is crossed by the migratory experience, which makes us particularly sensitive to the issues that emerge from this context.

Our practice is guided by Lacanian psychoanalysis and opposes certain trends in contemporary discourse, especially capitalist discourse, which promotes objectivity, the consumption of simple truths and quick answers. The La Parole clinic, on the other hand, is based on considering the singularity of each subject, understood as inseparable from their political, social and economic dimension. The specificity of the Lacanian clinic consists of non-prescriptive listening, which, through transference, opens the door to the manifestation of the unconscious.

Our clinic is based on the articulation between theory, practice and the ethics that guide our listening. Our commitment to an permanent formation manifests itself on four main fronts:

  • Internal reading of Lacan's seminars: An in-depth research group where we read and discuss the original texts, in French, investigating central concepts such as the unconscious, the symptom and desire.

  • Study of psychoanalysis through other voices: A study group dedicated to the critical reading of psychoanalysts of our time, with the aim of updating and advancing Lacanian theory.

  • Interdisciplinary research: seeks to connect psychoanalysis to other fields of knowledge, such as philosophy, expanding our theoretical understanding and enriching our clinical work.

  • Intervision group: A confidential and ethical space for discussing clinical cases, which is essential for improving our listening skills and guiding our studies.

The La Parole Clinic blog is the place where we register and share our commitment to psychoanalysis and the reflexions that permeate our practice.
